In this era of modern science, the biotechnology component is playing a role which is un-paralleled by any other discipline of science. This is because, in today’s world, frontier science like biotechnology is providing answers to most of the un-solved mysteries related to the betterment of the quality of life. The introduction of recombinant DNA technology in plants and agriculture has enormous implications. In today’s era biotechnology is used to answer to aspects such as altering the nutritional profile, yield of crops, or make them resistant to environmental stresses. On the other hand, the molecular breeding, which uses the methods and concepts of biotechnology has been able to improve agronomic traits and has produced plants with increased vigor and yield, high degree of tolerance or resistance to pest, disease or climatic stress. Virtually all the different facets of agriculture are touched by biotechnology, such as plant breeding, pathology, biochemistry, physiology and molecular biology. On other fronts, biotechnology is paving the way to answer to the concerns related to human welfare in areas related to diagnosis, therapeutic products, vaccines, industries and in medicines.
In the years to come, it is expected that the science of biotechnology will play a crucial role towards answering the problems related to every facet of human life.
