Training

Introduction

Training is a planned communication process for manpower development to bring desired changes in the knowledge (K), Skills (S), Practice (P), Attitude (A), Behaviour (B), and Other things (O) in accordance with the job requirements. Trainings organized were trainee-centered, agro-enterprise related and were based on learning through experience, skill and practice.

Training Programmes

During 2012-13 altogether 17 training programmes were organized on the. request of NGOs, ATMA and government organizations. Altogether 6 nos of training programmes were organized for farmers of Giridih, Saraikella, Bokaro and Koderma districts in which 150 nos of farmers participated. A total of four training programmes were organized on sugarcane cultivation in which 128 nos of farmers of Ranchi, Ramgarh, Sahebganj, Hazaribagh Koderma, Godda, districts participated. Three training programmes were sponsored by a promising NGO of Jharkhand i.e. Mobile Agricultural School and Services in which 119 nos of farmers received training on Integrated Farming System, Pulse production and horticultural crops.

Training Programmes of Extension Functionaries

During the period under report five training programme were organized for extension functionaries/ personnels. For technological backstopping of KVK scientists a training cum workshop on “Blending Indigenous Technical Knowledge (ITK) with Modern Agricultural Technologies” was organized for KVK Scientists. In which altogether 22 nos. of Scientists participated.
Three training programmes for 60 days each were organized for newly appointed VLWs of Ramgarh and Giridh district. Altogether 150 newly appointed VLWs were trained. The programme was sponsored by government of Jharkhand.

Training-cum-Exposure Visit of ARS under FET

A group of 6 (six) scientists were deputed from National Academy of Agricultural Research management, Rajendranagar, Hyderbad for “Field Experience Training” for 21 days They were trained in agro-eco-system analysis, At the same time they got acquainted with the social-economic diversities and cultural spectrum alongwith agro eco-system of Ranchi district of Jharkhand.
Training-cum-Exposure Visit Programme
Training cell organized an .exposure cum training programme for the farmers of Varanasi who got acquainted with research and extension activities. Other than this in different occasions about 70 farmers, extension agents, officials and students visited Birsa Agricultural University. Training cell facilitated their exposure visit. During Agrotech Kisan Mela altogether 2800 farmers of different districts were accommodated in Kisan and Krishak Bhawan.

Facilitated Training Programmes for Scientists and Extension Functionaries

Altogether 8 training programmes were organized by different government and non-government organizations like KVKs, SAMET! and GVT Ranchi. Training cell provided lodging and boarding support to 167 participants as detailed in table 4.

Training Programmes under DRMR Project

For augmentation of mustard production in Jharkhand a total number of three on-campus and two off-campus training programmes were conducted at Rampur and Chipra village of Namkum and Nagri block respectively. Altogether a total number of 205 farmers participated in these programmes.

Conclusion

During the period under report altogether 3847 farmers, farm women and extension functionaries were trained in 35 different training programmes. Training programme were organized for 291 days during the year. A sum of Rs. 3,89,847.00 (Three lakh eighty nine thousand eight hundred forty seven) only has been deposited against lodging and institutional charges. A sum of Rs. 9,00,000/- (nine lakhs) only is supposed to be received from Govt. of Jharkhand against lodging charges of VLW training. Due to shortage of manpower follow-up mechanism is not very strong, however, telephone calls and field visits have been undertaken for follow up action on limited scale. For strengthening training unit some basic infrastructure facilities such as camera, LCD projector etc. are needed. Renovation of Kisan Bhawan is also urgently required.
